Korea-Argentina Discuss Strengthening Cooperation on Critical Mineral Supply Chains and Hydrogen
Director General of Trade Negotiations Holds Talks with Argentina's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Worship
Anduk Geun, Head of the Trade Negotiation Division at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, held talks with Santiago Cafiero, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship of Argentina, who is visiting Korea, on the 30th to discuss ways to strengthen economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, including core mineral supply chains and hydrogen cooperation.
According to the Ministry of Trade, both sides agreed on the need to strengthen economic cooperation, such as expanding trade and investment between the two countries, and agreed to continue necessary consultations to accelerate progress in the Korea-Mercosur Trade Agreement (TA) negotiations. Mercosur is a customs union consisting of four countries: Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
They also discussed the possibility of signing the Korea-Argentina Trade and Investment Promotion Framework (TIPF) to establish a new cooperation channel encompassing the industrial, trade, and energy sectors between the two countries.

Furthermore, Head Anduk requested the Argentine government’s active interest and support to ensure that Korean companies investing locally and participating in lithium development can smoothly carry out their projects. Lithium is a core mineral for the battery industry, and Argentina ranks third in the world in lithium reserves and fourth in production. Head Anduk also emphasized the will of the Korean people and government to host the 2030 Busan World Expo and asked for Argentina’s active support.
