Goheung-gun Secures 7 Billion KRW in Green Remodeling Contest Funding

33 Village Senior Centers of Regional Branches, Energy Performance Improvement Effects

Gohung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) announced on the 30th that it has secured approximately 7 billion KRW in project funds by winning the public building green remodeling contest project promoted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The green remodeling project is a policy initiative by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport aimed at improving energy performance and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by repairing windows insulation, heating and cooling facilities, etc., of existing buildings whose energy efficiency has deteriorated due to aging, thereby improving the living and residential environment.

To attract the project, the county applied for the contest targeting 33 severely aged senior centers out of a total of 644 senior center buildings in the jurisdiction, and all 33 public buildings (senior centers) were finally approved by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The county evaluated this as the fruit of efforts secured by actively persuading the Ministry about the poor current facility conditions of the senior centers during the contest process, conducting meticulous on-site inspections, and proving practical facility management, thereby expanding the target senior centers from 13 to 33.

With the project secured, a total project cost of approximately 7 billion KRW (70% national funds, 30% county funds) will be invested to remodel 33 senior centers in the jurisdiction. The design will be completed within this year, and the remodeling project aims for completion in 2024.

The remodeling project plans to cover all aspects except the building structure of the senior centers, including replacing energy-saving heating and cooling facilities, window insulation, wallpapering, and flooring.

A Gohung-gun official said, “Once this project is completed, heating and cooling costs can be drastically reduced, greenhouse gas emissions will be lowered, and a comfortable and healthy living environment will be provided to the local elderly. It is also expected to greatly support the financially strained county budget.”
