Since last year, LG Electronics has conducted the Battery Return campaign three times, collecting used batteries and recycling rare metals. From one battery (450g) of the LG CodeZero A9S cordless vacuum cleaner, rare metals such as nickel (31.91g), cobalt (4.21g), lithium (6.06g), and manganese (2.04g) are recovered. The rare metals extracted from the collected batteries are recycled as new battery materials.
The used batteries collected through the campaign conducted by LG Electronics from May to June over two months amounted to about 16 tons, equivalent to about 35,000 A9S batteries. This is about a 30% increase compared to the approximately 12.5 tons of used batteries collected through last year's campaign.
More than 17,000 customers participated in this third campaign. From last year to this year, over 30,000 customers have participated in the used battery collection for cordless vacuum cleaners through this campaign.
The cordless vacuum cleaner used battery collection campaign is jointly hosted by LG Electronics, the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute, and the Resource Circulation Social Solidarity as part of LG Electronics' ESG management efforts to promote resource recovery of waste and activate the circular economy.
