"Indiscriminate Crime, Beware!"... Mapo-gu Holds Countermeasure Meeting
Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) held an emergency 'Indiscriminate Crime Response Countermeasure Meeting' in the district office's large conference room on the afternoon of the 29th to protect the safety of residents from recent consecutive indiscriminate crimes.
At the meeting, 12 department heads, including Deputy Mayors and heads of the Resident Safety Division, Job and Youth Division, Resident Welfare Division, and Health Administration Division, attended alongside Mayor Park Gang-su of Mapo-gu to thoroughly review countermeasures against indiscriminate crimes.
This year, Mapo-gu is expanding its safety infrastructure by newly installing 202 CCTVs in 50 crime-vulnerable areas and improving the performance of 21 outdated cameras. CCTVs and emergency bells have also been installed in parks and public restrooms to enable immediate response in emergencies. Additionally, the district operates the disaster safety communication network 'Safe Mapo Hotline' for rapid joint response with related agencies such as Mapo Police Station and Mapo Fire Station in case of disasters or safety accidents.
Among Seoul's autonomous districts, Mapo-gu has the highest proportion of female residents and is focusing on creating a safe city for women by implementing projects such as the 'Safe Return Scout,' which accompanies women on their way home late at night, inspecting public facilities, and the 'Safety Monitoring Team' that checks for illegal filming devices in schools.
Mapo-gu's countermeasures against indiscriminate crimes do not stop there. While responding to crime situations is important, the top priority is preventing crimes from occurring. Accordingly, Mapo-gu is promoting various programs to prevent accidents involving mentally ill individuals and isolated or reclusive youth at risk.
The Mapo-gu Public Health Center identifies mentally ill individuals early and provides consultations with specialists. It maintains a 24-hour emergency response system in cooperation with related organizations such as the Mental Health Welfare Center, psychiatric medical institutions, and Mapo Fire Station, striving for prompt response by immediately dispatching personnel to the scene and linking patients to hospitals in case of incidents involving mentally ill individuals.
Furthermore, Mapo-gu encourages the safe social reintegration of isolated and reclusive youth in blind spots by utilizing community leaders and the Chomchom Connection Group to identify subjects and motivate them to participate in support projects tailored to their conditions and needs.

Mayor Park Gang-su emphasized, “Mapo has many densely populated areas such as Hangang Park, Hongdae, and Gyeongui Line Forest Trail, making it highly susceptible to risks. Departments should prepare detailed safety measures suited to the district’s characteristics to prevent even a single safety accident and maintain constant vigilance.”
