Director Jeong Ji-young Reflects on the Era Through Film, 40th Anniversary Retrospective Held
Director Jeong Ji-young's 40th anniversary retrospective will be held from the 6th to the 14th of next month at Seoul Art Nine.
Art Nine announced that it has selected six representative works of Director Jeong Ji-young, including 'Nambugun' (1990), 'White War' (1992), and 'The Life of a Hollywood Kid' (1994), which deeply insight into the pains of modern Korean history, as well as 'Broken Arrow' (2011), 'Namyeong-dong 1985' (2012), and 'Black Money' (2019), which sharply criticize the absurdities of the establishment with a deep and weighty style.
Regarding this retrospective, Art Nine stated, "We aim to look into Director Jeong Ji-young's cinematic world, who has continuously embedded and attempted to express his attitude toward life through films while maintaining sharp criticism of the absurdities of the world."
They also highlighted, "While Director Jeong's 20th-century works focused on the painful history of South Korea and its relationship with individuals, his works since the 2010s have deepened their focus on the lives and dignity of individuals suffering from the absurdities of the establishment that still exist behind the development of formal democracy and the expansion of globalization."

The theater explained the planning background, saying, "Director Jeong has recognized society through films and shouted that if we who recognize it unite our strength, the world can ultimately change. His works, which have always sought the truth of the world through cinema, will provide a direction for the Korean film industry facing a crisis to move forward."
