Yongsan-gu (District Mayor Park Hee-young) is installing closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in crime-prone, densely crowded, and parking management vulnerable areas from this month until early November, linking them to the integrated control center. The aim is to eliminate blind spots and create a safe urban environment.
The district secured approximately 1.85 billion KRW in project funds to install a total of 213 cameras at 85 locations. By purpose, there are ▲69 locations (150 cameras) for crime prevention ▲14 locations (54 cameras) for crowd management ▲2 locations (9 cameras) for parking enforcement, with crime prevention cameras being the most numerous.
The final locations for crime prevention CCTV were confirmed through the CCTV Review Committee in May. Priority was given to high-risk areas urgently requiring installation after consultation with the Yongsan Police Station. Residents’ opinions were collected, and Seoul city big data analysis was also referenced.
Crowd management CCTV will be installed in places with concentrated visitors such as near Itaewon Station, Quinon-gil, Hannam-dong cafe street, and Yongridan-gil. Along with cameras, notification lights (logojectors) will also be installed for crowd management. These will display warning messages to alert people about crowd density.
A district official stated, “The CCTV installation process, from site selection, contractor contracting, to construction, takes about 10 months,” adding, “In addition to the first phase of CCTV installation this year, additional installations will continue until the end of the year.”
The effectiveness of crime response through CCTV is also being ensured. IP emergency bells will be installed together with all crime prevention and crowd management CCTVs except for parking enforcement cameras. Pressing the IP emergency bell enables two-way communication with the integrated control center. In emergencies, the on-site situation can be directly conveyed along with CCTV footage, establishing a prompt crime response system.
Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, “We hope that expanding CCTV coverage will reduce blind spots, alleviate residents’ anxiety, and contribute to crime prevention, especially regarding recent serious crimes,” and added, “We will explore various ways to prevent crime from multiple angles.”

The district is also continuing to upgrade old security lights for crime prevention until the end of the year. A total of 765 old security lights in the area will be replaced with LEDs to create a safe nighttime walking environment. Additionally, LED security lights will be newly installed at 12 locations.
