MFDS Reports 48 Food Establishments Violating Hygiene Standards in Summer Inspections
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced on the 28th that it has identified 48 locations violating the Food Sanitation Act during inspections of restaurants and other facilities in multi-use areas near summer vacation spots.
This inspection was conducted from the 10th to the 14th of last month in collaboration with 17 local governments, targeting a total of 5,446 places including restaurants. These included restaurants operating in major summer vacation areas and businesses manufacturing widely consumed edible ice, ice cream, and coffee products.
The main violations were ▲failure to conduct health examinations (31 locations) ▲violation of hygienic handling standards (5 locations) ▲failure to wear hygiene caps and masks (4 locations) ▲failure to prepare documents related to production and work records (2 locations) ▲violation of facility standards (2 locations) ▲unreported business operations (1 location), among others. Additionally, three businesses were found storing products past their expiration date, violating business operator compliance requirements, and failing to conduct self-quality inspections.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety explained, "The local governments in charge will take administrative actions against the identified businesses and will reinspect them within six months to verify improvements."

Furthermore, the Ministry collected a total of 722 samples of foods prepared and sold at vacation spots, including Sikhye, cold noodles, soybean water, onion juice, arrowroot juice, and hamburgers, to test for food poisoning bacteria and compliance with standards and specifications. As a result of the tests, 22 samples were found non-compliant in bacterial count and other criteria, and the local governments will proceed with administrative actions against the respective businesses.
