In a fish market in Pohang, Gyeongbuk, a 1-ton electric truck driven by a man in his 60s crashed through the market roof and fell, injuring more than 10 people including the driver and merchants.
According to the police and fire authorities on the 27th, at around 4:15 PM that day, a truck moving from the 5th floor to the 4th floor through a rotary exit in a public parking lot at a fish market in Jukdo-dong, Buk-gu, Pohang suddenly broke through the railing and fell down. The truck pierced through the roof of the fish market below and fell onto a restaurant selling seafood and a street stall, instantly turning the area into chaos.

At the time, there were not only merchants but also citizens and tourists who came to shop on their day off. Witnesses said, "At the moment of the accident, with the vehicle falling and part of the building collapsing, I initially thought it was an earthquake," and "Suddenly, something fell from the roof of the fish market with a loud noise, followed by a 'bang' sound," describing the situation.
The fire authorities deployed 51 rescue personnel to the scene to rescue the injured and used 20 vehicles to transport them to hospitals. As a result of the accident, more than 10 people including the truck driver, a passenger, market merchants, and customers sustained serious and minor injuries, with three seriously injured suffering skull fractures. It is currently known that no one’s life is in danger. Additionally, physical damage occurred, including damage to several parts of the roof of the fish market building.

The driver in his 60s who caused the accident reportedly said during rescue, "The vehicle suddenly accelerated while I was starting and driving." The police have secured CCTV footage and black boxes from nearby vehicles and plan to investigate the detailed cause of the accident once the truck driver, who is currently being treated at the hospital, completes treatment.
