KAIST University Student Team Achieves First Place Worldwide in Hacking Defense Competition
The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 25th that it held the international hacking defense competition 'Codegate 2023' to discover top-level white hackers.
The competition, held over two days from the previous day at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, was divided into general, university student, and junior divisions for those under 19 years old.

View original imageOn this day, the general division winner was the 'PPP' team, a coalition of the United States, Canada, and India, receiving the Minister of Science and ICT Award and a prize of 50 million KRW.
The university student division was won by the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) 'GoN' team, which received the Minister of Science and ICT Award and a prize of 10 million KRW, while the junior division winner was Harry Chen from the United Kingdom, who received the Minister of Science and ICT Award and a prize of 3 million KRW.
Started in 2008 and marking its 15th competition this year, the Codegate international hacking defense competition is a global event that discovers top-level white hackers, having produced winners of the US DEF CON international hacking competition.
At the side event, the Global Security Conference featured lectures by domestic and international cybersecurity experts on new security threats gaining attention with the emergence of generative AI, under the theme 'Security Paradigm in the Age of Artificial Intelligence (AI),' covering large language models, security, and AI for security.

Additionally, various experiential events such as blockchain hacking, ChatGPT battles, and mini CTF hacking competitions were held for general participants to directly experience hacking and collectively recognize the importance of cybersecurity.
