[Taboleo] Cargo Truck Like a Passenger Car... Perfect for Tax Tech
Renault Korea QM6 Quest
Cargo Space Volume Up to 1413ℓ
LPG Model Offers Fuel Cost Competitiveness
Good Ride Comfort and Quietness for a Cargo Vehicle
Sports utility vehicle (SUV)-style trucks have been steadily available since the past. There was a trend of taking existing SUV models and converting the rear into a cargo space, naming them like ‘○○○ Van.’ These vehicles sold mainly to customers who valued the ability to safely load cargo compared to truck beds and the advantage of lower taxes as commercial vehicles. Renault Korea Motors’ addition of the QM6 Quest to the facelifted mid-size SUV QM6 targets this very segment.
The exterior looks no different from the passenger model. It is hard to distinguish except for the phrase “Maximum load capacity 300 kg” written on the rear bumper. A partition with a window is installed behind the front seats, and all rear seats have been removed. Bars are installed to prevent cargo in the loading area from breaking the rear window. Both the tailgate and rear doors open, making it easy to load and unload cargo. However, the windows do not open. The cargo space volume is about 1413 liters at maximum, which is somewhat low for an adult male to sit upright, but it is designed flat enough to lie down comfortably.
The fuel used is liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). The fuel tank is installed in a donut shape under the cargo bed, so it does not take up much space. The QM6 LPG model has been sold for a long time and has been steadily refined, so its durability and driving performance are well verified. It is comfortable for urban and daily driving and does not feel underpowered.
Although LPG prices have risen significantly, fuel costs remain competitive compared to gasoline, diesel, and even electric charging costs, which have also increased substantially. While it may not be noticeably quiet or have a particularly comfortable ride as a passenger car, it is quite quiet for a commercial vehicle. Most other commercial vehicles on the market still use diesel, so drivers have to endure constant vibrations.
The driver and passenger seats feature many thoughtful specifications. Heated and ventilated seats are included, and a display-type rearview mirror with a rear camera is installed to provide rear visibility even when cargo blocks the rear window. Navigation is optional, and lower trims seem to be fine without it. The highest trim features an infotainment system that supports T map and other functions, operable on a large 9.3-inch screen. LED sterilization mode and an air purification system are newly applied in this model.
Renault promotes it as a ‘new concept SUV,’ but this vehicle is closer to a desperate measure by Renault, which currently has no new models to release and must maintain market presence. Since there is a lack of incentives to attract potential customers, they are experimenting with various uses of existing vehicles. The lowest trim costs 26.8 million KRW, the mid trim 28.1 million KRW, and the highest trim 32.2 million KRW. As a commercial vehicle, the tax is attractive at less than 30,000 KRW, but it is not allowed to drive in the first lane on highways.
