KIC Discusses Investment Opportunities in Finance and Media Industries with Korean-American Professionals in New York
The sovereign wealth fund Korea Investment Corporation (KIC) hosted a meeting in New York where Korean financial professionals and local experts discussed investment opportunities in the media industry.
KIC announced that its New York branch organized the 4th "New York Korean Finance Forum" on the morning of the 24th (local time) at the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in New York.
About 20 investment officials from the government, public investment institutions, securities firms, banks, and insurance companies attended the forum, including the financial counselor from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the United States.
The presentation was delivered by Davis Noell, Co-Head of North American Private Equity at Providence Equity Partners (hereafter ‘Providence’). Founded in 1989, Providence is an asset management firm specializing in the TMTE (Technology, Media, Telecom, Education) sector. It is known for its strong capability to identify promising investment opportunities in the media market, which is highly sensitive to technological advancements and trend changes.
Co-Head Davis Noell said, “From a private equity perspective, a very favorable market environment has been created for investing in the media industry. Good investment opportunities are emerging in terms of long-term growth potential, business models, and valuation, with particular attention to live performances and events, sports, and the digital advertising market.” He added, “After the COVID period dominated by digital experiences, consumers now desire vivid experiences, and the global ticket sales market is growing at an annual rate of 10%.”
He also identified the sports industry as a promising investment destination. He stated, “The sports industry is seeing increasing demand in various areas, including on-site ticket sales, game broadcasting, and team acquisitions.”
He further noted that investment opportunities in digital advertising and vertical marketplaces are also being closely watched. A vertical marketplace refers to e-commerce that combines community, data, and shopping.
Lee Kyung-taek, head of KIC’s New York branch and organizer of the New York Korean Finance Forum, said, “It was a meaningful occasion to understand the media industry from a big-picture perspective, covering the growth background, the market trends over the past 30 years, and current trends, and to discuss future investment opportunities.” He added, “We will continue to regularly organize gatherings where Korean financial professionals in New York can share wisdom.”
