"Anyone to Take Nude Photos?"... Suspicious Past of Police Account Predicting 'Knife Attack'
Posted Threatening Messages on Anonymous Community Using Police Account
Previously Also Posted Sexual Content... National Police Agency Launches Investigation
As the National Police Agency has launched an investigation into the author who threatened a stabbing attack using a police officer account online, it has been identified that the author had previously posted several sexual content posts.
On the 21st, Yoon Hee-geun, Commissioner of the National Police Agency, stated at a press conference, "We will definitely identify and strictly punish the author who threatened members of society and defamed the honor of the police." The Cyber Terror Investigation Unit of the National Police Agency has begun an investigation to accurately identify the individual.
Earlier that morning, on the anonymous workplace community 'Blind,' a post was made stating, "I will stab people tonight at Exit 1 of Gangnam Station," and "Everyone be careful lol, I will kill everyone." The author of the post was shown to be affiliated with the 'National Police Agency.'
In the case of Blind, only users who have verified their employment through email can join. Therefore, the author is presumed to be a current or former police officer. However, the police are not ruling out the possibility of account trading or hacking.
Meanwhile, it has been identified that before the stabbing threat, the author posted messages such as, "I'm a handsome police officer who wants to take nude photos; is there an older sister who can take pictures?" "I just want to feel shame," and "I will pay well for the service."
Additionally, posts like "I'll pay you to be friends," "20,000 won per month, and I am serious," and "I am handsome and kind. When we meet and hang out, I will pay for everything" were also made. Although all related posts have been deleted, they are spreading through social networking services (SNS) and other channels.
Netizens who saw this reacted with comments such as, "It's a problem even if he is really a police officer, and if not, it's still a problem because a police-related person traded the account," "Wasn't this an attempt to lure women to commit a crime?" and "The police are conducting special security activities, yet such things happen."
Meanwhile, according to the police, since the stabbing incident at Sillim Station in Seoul on the 21st of last month, there have been 431 murder threat posts online until the morning of this day. Among the 192 people arrested by the police, 80 (41.6%) were minors in their teens.
Han Dong-hoon, Minister of Justice, emphasized regarding the online murder threat posts, "The price of bluffing will be going to jail," and added, "Usually, these cases might have been let off with a warning, but recently, the prosecution and police insist on sending a clear message, so even minors are being detained."
