Seongdong-gu Increases Postpartum Care Costs for Families with Newborns from 500,000 to 1,500,000 Won
From September, postpartum care costs for families with newborns will increase from 500,000 KRW to up to 1,500,000 KRW
Distinguished by cash and voucher methods, retroactive support planned for families with newborns in July and August
Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) will expand support for postpartum care costs for families with newborns up to 1,500,000 KRW starting this September to help mothers recover their health smoothly and alleviate economic burdens.
Since January this year, Seongdong-gu has been providing 500,000 KRW for postpartum care costs regardless of the income level of the family with a newborn, and from September, this will be expanded to up to 1,500,000 KRW (500,000 KRW in cash and 1,000,000 KRW in vouchers). Mothers who gave birth in July and August will be eligible for retroactive application after the implementation date in September.
The eligibility and usage differ depending on the type of support, cash or voucher. For cash support, the mother must have resided in Seongdong-gu for at least six months as of the child's birth date, and either the father or mother must have their resident registration in Seongdong-gu as of the application date.
Voucher support targets mothers who have resided in Seoul for at least six months as of the application date and gave birth in Seongdong-gu, with a value of 1,000,000 KRW. Voucher usage is divided into ▲ postpartum care and newborn health management services (postpartum helpers) ▲ purchase of medicines, health supplements, massage, yoga/pilates, body shaping, postpartum depression counseling, and other postpartum care-related businesses, with up to 500,000 KRW allowed for each category. However, vouchers cannot be used to pay for basic postpartum care center fees. Applications for support can be made by visiting the local community service center or online within 60 days of the child's birth.
