KOSPI and KOSDAQ Start Higher... Focus on PBOC LPR Announcement
On the 21st, the KOSPI and KOSDAQ started higher. This followed reports that the People's Bank of China lowered the Loan Prime Rate (LPR) that day to stimulate the economy. It is interpreted that the domestic stock market is rising on the judgment that the Chinese real estate issue is unlikely to spread as a systemic risk and concerns about the Chinese economic slowdown can be alleviated.
As of 9:17 a.m., the KOSPI is trading at 2,513.89, up 0.37% (9.35 points) from the previous trading day. It started at 2,511.70, up 0.29% (7.20 points), and is maintaining an upward trend.
Individual investors are solely net buying 38.9 billion KRW, driving the index. Foreigners and institutions are net selling 28.4 billion KRW and 6.2 billion KRW, respectively. In the futures market, only foreigners are buying 85.6 billion KRW, while individuals and institutions are selling 31.9 billion KRW and 22.4 billion KRW, respectively.
Among the top 10 market capitalization stocks, only POSCO Holdings -0.18%, Hyundai Motor -0.21%, and POSCO Future M -0.12% are declining. NAVER is leading the gains, trading up 1.65% at 216,000 KRW. Following are SK Hynix +1.02%, Samsung Biologics +0.65%, and Samsung Electronics +0.60%.
By sector, Medical Precision +3.23%, Services +1.44%, Chemicals +1.27%, Transportation & Warehousing +1.21%, and Non-metallic Minerals +1.03% are rising. Only Textiles & Apparel -0.58% and Electric & Gas Utilities -0.17% are declining.
As of 9:25 a.m., the KOSDAQ is at 883.40, up 0.69% (6.08 points) from the previous trading day. The KOSDAQ also started at 881.09, up 0.43% (3.77 points), and is showing a steady trend. In the KOSDAQ, institutions alone are net buying 49.3 billion KRW, driving the index. Individuals and foreigners are net selling 17.7 billion KRW and 29.0 billion KRW, respectively.
