First Trial: 6 Months Imprisonment with 2 Years Probation...Prosecution Appeals
A man in his 50s who secretly filmed the bodies of female students in school uniforms and women wearing skirts on city buses early in the morning for seven years was sentenced to a suspended prison term.
On the 19th, the Chuncheon District Court Wonju Branch sentenced Mr. A (54), who was indicted for violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes (filming and distribution using a camera, etc.), to six months in prison with a two-year suspension. Mr. A was also ordered to attend 40 hours of sexual violence treatment lectures.
Mr. A was charged with secretly filming the bodies of four women wearing school uniform skirts standing on a city bus in Wonju, Gangwon Province, at 7:48 a.m. on October 17, 2016, and illegally filming women’s bodies 162 times over about seven years from then until January 18 of last year. Mr. A mainly committed these crimes while using city buses, targeting students and women who used the bus on their way to school or work. It was confirmed that he secretly filmed the legs and other body parts of more than 10 people a day at times.
The court pointed out that Mr. A’s crimes were "of a bad nature as they targeted an unspecified large number of victims, with many offenses and victims, making the culpability heavy." Regarding the sentencing, the court explained, "The sentence was determined considering that Mr. A admitted to the crimes and showed remorse."
