Former Chief Prosecutor Acquitted of Charges for Receiving Promissory Note in Stock Listing Obstruction Threat Case
"Not a State of Restricted Freedom in Decision-Making"
A former chief prosecutor turned lawyer was acquitted of charges of receiving promissory notes worth tens of billions of won by threatening to obstruct the KOSDAQ listing of a business partner.
On the 17th, the 12th Criminal Division of the Seoul Eastern District Court (Chief Judge Lee Jong-chae) acquitted Park Mo (60), who was indicted on charges of extortion under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes.
The court stated, "Based on the conversations between the defendant and the victim, it does not appear that the victim was forced to sign the agreement while their freedom of decision-making was restricted."
Regarding the text message sent by Park to the victim saying "Let's avoid unpleasant incidents," the court judged, "It seems to be a response to the victim's prior message warning that a provisional seizure would proceed if repayment was not made."
