Broadcasting and Media Industry "Welcomes Fair Trade Commission's Sanctions on Eumjeo Association"
Broadcasting and media operators have expressed their support for the Fair Trade Commission's sanctions against the Korea Music Copyright Association.
The Korea Broadcasting Association, Korea Cable TV Broadcasting Association, Korea IPTV Broadcasting Association, Korea TV Home Shopping Association, Korea Broadcasting Channel Promotion Association, Korea Cinema Industry Association, OTT Music Copyright Countermeasure Council, and Film Music Copyright Screening Theater Council issued a joint statement on the 17th, stating, "We support the Fair Trade Commission's sanctions and hope that a fair trade order in the domestic music copyright service market will be established in the future."
Earlier, on the 26th of last month, the Fair Trade Commission imposed corrective orders and fines for the abuse of market dominance by the Korea Music Copyright Association.
The operators urged the Fair Trade Commission to maintain continuous attention to establish a fair trade order in the domestic music copyright consignment management service market. They said, "This is a common problem that all copyright users of domestic music, including terrestrial broadcasters, SOs, satellite broadcasters, Internet TV (IPTV), broadcasting channel usage operators (PP), and online video services (OTT), have been experiencing for several years," and added, "We urge the Fair Trade Commission to continue its interest and monitoring of the relevant fields until the various ongoing disputes are resolved and a fair trade order is established."

They requested the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the competent authority, to actively improve efforts and supervisory activities, and urged the National Assembly to legislate to eradicate the abuse of market dominance by the Korea Music Copyright Association. The operators stated, "All broadcasting and media operators hope that a foundation for the mutual growth of K-content and K-pop through cooperation between copyright holders and users will be established, securing the sustainable global competitiveness of the Korean Wave," and added, "We promise not to cease our own efforts, such as promoting balanced business operations to protect the rights of copyright holders, foster the growth of related cultural industries, and ensure stable viewing rights for the public regarding K-content."
