According to the Jeonnam Jangseong Police on the 16th, a report was received that two boys, A (10) and his younger brother B (9), who were playing in Namchang Valley, Bukha-myeon, Jangseong-gun, were swept away by a rapid current around 4:42 p.m. the previous day.
At the time, a part-time worker, following the pension owner's instructions, opened a sluice gate that had been blocking the valley water and was draining water through a pipe channel (10 meters wide, 1 to 1.5 meters deep), during which A and B were sucked in.
Although A and B were wearing life jackets, the accident could not be prevented. At that moment, Kim Eojin and Lee Sejun, who were playing in the water together, quickly moved and found them.
Lee quickly rescued the older brother A, who was struggling near the sluice gate, and Kim saved the younger brother B, who was being swept away by the fast current. However, B was unconscious, his lips had turned blue, and he was not breathing properly.
To avoid missing the golden time, they rushed to secure B’s airway. Thanks to the cardiopulmonary resuscitation performed by B’s father, who arrived in a hurry, B was saved.
Lee Sejun said, "My body reacted first when I heard calls for help. This experience changed my mindset about the value of precious life. Next time, I will respond more flexibly to the situation." He added, "Our school broadcasts water safety rules every year, and the CPR we learned during physical education proved very effective in this emergency."
Kim Eojin also said, "When the children we were playing with shouted for help, I immediately jumped into the water without hesitation to rescue them. I’m glad the children are safe. I hope they recover quickly." He added, "If a similar situation occurs, I will step forward without hesitation."
