Ruling Party Official in Japan Visits Yasukuni Shrine on Defeat Anniversary
A prominent politician of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party visited the Yasukuni Shrine, where Class A war criminals are enshrined, on the day marking the end of the war.
On the 15th, Kyodo News reported that Koichi Hagiuda, Chairman of the LDP Policy Research Council, visited the Yasukuni Shrine in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, that morning.
Hagiuda, one of the four key executives of the LDP, also visited the Yasukuni Shrine on the day marking the end of the war last year. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is expected not to visit but to offer a ritual offering. Prime Minister Kishida had previously offered ritual offerings to the Yasukuni Shrine in October last year and April this year.
