Government Holds 78th Anniversary Liberation Day Celebration Ceremony
Over 2,000 Attendees Including Patriotic Activists
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced that the 78th Liberation Day Celebration Ceremony was held on the 15th at 10 a.m. at Ewha Womans University Auditorium, attended by about 2,000 people including patriots, independence activists and their families, key national figures, representatives of political parties and religious orders, the diplomatic corps in Korea, representatives from various sectors, and citizens.
The celebration ceremony proceeded with the national ceremony, screening of a theme video, commemorative speeches, congratulatory addresses, celebratory performances, singing of the Liberation Day song, and three cheers of "Manse".
The event began with actor Yoo Dong-geun reading the poem "Only Glory" by the late independence activist and linguist Lee Hee-seung, expressing the joy of liberation.
The national anthem was led by vocalist Park Seung-joo, winner of the 2018 Montreal International Music Competition, and the "Wizard Choir," which won first place in the children's choir category at this year's Gangneung World Choir Competition. The theme video conveyed the meaning of great citizens uniting to move toward new creation and prosperity through the words of independence activists, interviews with patriots, and the image of Korea’s growth into a first-class nation.
The celebratory performance featured FusionMC, a fusion b-boy group that has won multiple world championships, performing a lively routine to the background music of an independence army song, depicting the journey of great citizens toward freedom. The three cheers of "Manse" were led by actor Yoo Dong-geun, Air Force pilot Captain Gil Han-bit who participated in the Promise operation, and Ko Jung-hwan, director of the Korea Aerospace Research Institute and a contributor to the successful launch of the Nuri rocket.
Additionally, on the occasion of Liberation Day, a total of 100 people were selected as recipients of the Independence Meritorious Service Award, and at the ceremony, the award was presented directly to five descendants of independence activists, including Kim Yong-su, a descendant of the late independence activist Kim Hyun-soo.
