Mokpo Coast Guard Urgently Transfers Emergency Patient from Island Village Amid Typhoon 'Khanun' Approaching North
Putting All Effort into Emergency Transport Through 10m/s Strong Winds and Waves
Mokpo Maritime Police (Chief Kim Hae-cheol) safely transported two emergency patients from island villages within their jurisdiction to the mainland while maintaining the highest emergency level 3 in preparation for Typhoon No. 6 ‘Khanun’.
According to Mokpo Maritime Police on the 10th, a report was received on the 9th at 7:49 PM that Mr. A (in his 60s) on Sanggando Island, Sinan County, was experiencing severe chest pain and urgently needed to be transported to a mainland hospital.
Despite strong winds of 10 m/s at sea due to the typhoon, the police boarded Mr. A onto a patrol vessel and moved to Bokho Pier, where he was promptly handed over to the 119 emergency medical team at 9:38 PM.
Earlier that day, at 3:34 PM, a report was received that Mr. B (in his 50s) on Haedo Island, Jindo County, had sustained a finger injury caused by a vehicle. A patrol vessel was dispatched to the scene, where Mr. B received emergency treatment and was quickly transported to the mainland.
Both emergency patients transported with the help of the maritime police are reported to have received treatment at a large hospital located in Mokpo.
As of midnight on the 10th, with a typhoon warning issued for the southern offshore waters of the southern West Sea, Mokpo Maritime Police has raised the response level to the highest, level 3, in preparation for the northward-moving Typhoon No. 6 ‘Khanun’ and is making every effort to minimize typhoon damage.
