Gwangyang Steelworks Establishes Food Waste Self-Processing Facility
Food Waste Disposed and Reborn as Animal Feed
Immediate Food Waste Processing, Resource Recycling
POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks (Director Lee Jin-su) has taken the lead in environmental protection and improving the working environment by installing a food waste self-treatment machine at the welfare center established for its employees.
Since food waste is accompanied by odor and environmental pollution, POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks, as a corporate citizen, has actively installed a large-scale food waste self-treatment machine to promote environmental protection and practice ESG management philosophy.

When food waste is input into the new equipment, it undergoes treatment using microorganisms specialized for food waste along with a drying process, reducing the volume by about 90% or more.
In particular, the food waste processed through this treatment is reprocessed into products such as animal feed, naturally integrating into our daily lives, creating a dual effect of environmental protection and resource recycling, making this initiative even more meaningful.
Additionally, the odor and inconvenience generated during the food waste treatment process are expected to be drastically reduced, significantly improving the working environment for employees.
Since immediate food waste treatment is now possible internally, there is no longer a need to wait for visits from food waste disposal companies, eliminating odor generation. The automatic lift-type food waste treatment also noticeably reduces the physical burden on the cooks.
Meanwhile, Gwangyang Steelworks plans to continue sustainable growth as a respected 100-year company by realizing a company that protects the environment together through various waste resource recycling activities, such as using work uniforms made from recycled PET bottles and creating products recycled from bottle caps to donate to the local community, as well as launching a resource circulation plastic bank volunteer group.
