Gwangju Nam-gu Hosts Healing Busking at 5 Local Attractions
Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, will present healing busking performances for two weeks at five major local attractions, including the Pureungil Park walking trail, to help residents forget the midsummer heat.
On the 9th, Nam-gu announced that it will operate the "Midsummer Healing Busking" program from the 12th to the 27th to provide a healing time for residents exhausted by the heat and to transform major parks and specialized streets in the city into outdoor performance stages.
The locations for the Midsummer Healing Busking include the plaza behind Bigspo on the Pureungil Park walking trail, Cheongrojeong in Juwol-dong, the street food zone around Baegun Square, the Yangnim-dong craft specialty street, and Nodae Mulbit Park, where a total of 12 diverse cultural programs will be held.
In particular, the healing busking stages will be customized according to the characteristics of each location.
First, at Cheongrojeong in Juwol-dong, a favorite spot for seniors, a healing busking performance will be held once starting at 5 p.m. on the 12th.
The program includes a jump rope demonstration for senior health management, performances by residents who won awards including the grand prize on last year's KBS Singing Contest Gwangju Nam-gu edition, the Mudeung Echo performance group, and saxophonist Kim Jong-bo.
At Nodae Mulbit Park, cultural performances for middle-aged and older adults as well as children will be held starting at 5 p.m. on the 13th and 26th.
The opening acts on each day will feature dance and taekwondo, followed by performances by acoustic guitar singers, winners of neighborhood singing contests, electronic violin players, and musicians who will help cool down the summer heat.
At Yangnim-dong craft specialty street, popular among young people, performances will continue for two consecutive days on the 26th and 27th, including pop singers active in the region, indie bands, jazz bands, trot, and dance performances.
Two healing busking events will also be held at the plaza behind Bigspo in Pureungil Park.
From 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the 13th and 27th, for 90 minutes, visitors can enjoy a variety of music genres including ballads, classical, vocal music, and trot, with winners of neighborhood singing contests showcasing their talents.
Additionally, beautiful melodies from acoustic guitar, flute, and daegeum (Korean bamboo flute) will be performed.
Furthermore, at the street food zone, a high-quality cultural performance festival will be held over five days on the 18th, 19th, 20th, 25th, and 26th for family visitors and citizens.
