'14.5'.
This is the average official domestic handicap index (handicap). The Korea Golf Association (KGA) announced on the 8th, "As of the end of July this year, the average handicap is 14.5," adding, "It was recorded as 13.5 for men and 16.7 for women." Plus handicap holders, who have the skill level of scratch players (golfers who can play with a handicap of 0 on any course), account for 0.8% (3,845 people), and golfers with a handicap below 5.0 make up 4.8% (24,517 people).
Since this year, KGA has been providing handicap services together with SmartScore. The total number of registered official handicap holders is 511,398. There are 350,136 men and 161,262 women. The handicap represents a golfer's skill calculated from their best registered scores and is a system that also evaluates potential golf ability. Generally, the difference between one's handicap and actual score is about 4 to 5 strokes. Only 15% of rounds are played at the level of one's handicap skill.
