Yeosu City in Full Preparation for National Sports Festival and Para Games Hosting
270 million invested in facility renovation, simultaneous hosting of main festivals, unique torch relay, etc.
Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) is putting all its efforts into preparing for the ‘104th National Sports Festival and the 43rd National Para Games.’
According to the city on the 2nd, the ‘104th National Sports Festival and 43rd National Para Games’ will be held from October to November at over 70 venues across 22 cities and counties in Jeollanam-do.
In Yeosu City, five events of the National Sports Festival (yachting, triathlon, baseball, tennis, and jokgu) and four events of the National Para Games (yachting, triathlon, badminton, and dance sports) are scheduled to take place.
Notably, this year’s National Sports Festival and National Para Games are being held in Jeollanam-do for the first time in 15 years, and as the first event after the return to normalcy post-COVID-19, it is expected that about 30,000 athletes and many spectators will visit Jeollanam-do.
Accordingly, the city is fully committed to ensuring the safety of athletes and spectators, attracting tourists, and successfully hosting the event.
First, with a budget of over 2.7 billion KRW, renovation of aging sports facilities has been underway since March. Jinnam Baseball Stadium and Jinnam Gymnasium, which successfully hosted the ‘2023 Korea Open Badminton Championships’ in July, have completed renovations, and the Soho Yacht Marina, where the yachting events will be held, is scheduled to complete renovation work by September.
Additionally, cultural events such as the ‘Yeosu Night Sea Fireworks Festival’ will be held in line with the festival period to promote ‘Yeosu, the Tourist and Cultural City’ to the athletes and spectators, aiming to secure future tourists.
Furthermore, an extraordinary yacht torch relay, stretching from the only Yi Sun-sin Marina in Jeollanam-do to Soho Yacht Marina, is planned for the torch relay, known as the highlight of the festival, to support the successful hosting of the event.
A city official stated, “This nationwide sports event is expected to greatly contribute to revitalizing the local economy and expanding the base of community sports, so we will prepare thoroughly to ensure a successful event.”
