Jeju Fire Department Closely Manages Heatwave Vulnerable Areas... "Minimizing Damage"
The Jeju Fire Safety Headquarters is strengthening patrols, focusing on areas vulnerable to heatwaves, to prevent damage.
On the 5th, Headquarters Chief Kim Suhwan inspected and guided the status of ‘long-duration, solitary’ agricultural work through surveillance in the agricultural areas of Gujwa-eup, and designated ▲farm workers in fields and vinyl greenhouses ▲outdoor workers at construction sites ▲elderly living alone and disabled persons as the ‘three major heatwave vulnerable groups’ for close management.
Accordingly, Jeju Fire Safety has set a one-week intensive heatwave response period starting that day to strengthen response levels, deploying 32 fire trucks and 74 volunteer fire brigades across the entire province to focus on minimizing casualties and disaster damage caused by the heatwave.
Fire officials conduct simultaneous surveillance activities across the province during vulnerable hours and proactively manage by broadcasting heatwave preparedness guidelines using fire truck sirens to encourage refraining from outdoor activities.
Volunteer firefighters visit vulnerable households, senior centers, and cooling shelters directly to conduct one-on-one safety checks for vulnerable groups and promote preventive measures.
Additionally, a multi-dispatch system for 119 emergency medical teams has been established in preparation for severe heat-related illnesses, and the 119 Comprehensive Situation Room’s Emergency Situation Management Center is significantly strengthening medical support for residents related to the heatwave, swiftly transporting patients by managing real-time status of hospitals capable of treating heat-related illnesses.
Chief Kim Suhwan stated, “As record-breaking heatwaves continue and abnormal climate becomes the norm, we will respond thoroughly through resident-focused safety management,” and urged, “Please refrain from outdoor activities during vulnerable heatwave hours as much as possible, and if you experience headaches, convulsions, or loss of consciousness after heat exposure, immediately call 119.”
