Sex Offender Caught at Gangnam Club After Tampering with Electronic Ankle Monitor
Ministry of Justice to Apply for Arrest Warrant Soon
A sex offender who cut off his electronic monitoring device (electronic anklet) and fled was arrested about 3 hours and 40 minutes later.
According to the police on the 3rd, the Seocho Police Station in Seoul apprehended a man in his 30s, Mr. A, near Sinsa Station around 2:50 a.m. that day. Mr. A damaged the electronic anklet with a cutter in a restroom of a building near Gangnam Station at 11:14 p.m. the previous day.
Mr. A changed clothes and switched taxis to evade police pursuit, wandered around the Gangnam-daero area, and reportedly visited a club.
The Ministry of Justice and the police conducted a joint investigation by reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and tracking mobile phone base stations. Mr. A was released after serving time for attempted rape and was ordered to wear the electronic anklet until 2027 after his release in October last year.
