Yeosu City Takes First Step in Yeosu Bay Renaissance Mid-to-Long-Term Comprehensive Development Plan
Kick-off Meeting on the 2nd, Fostering Core Content for the Namhaean Tourism Belt
Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced on the 2nd that it held a kickoff meeting for the "Yeosu Bay Renaissance Mid- to Long-term Comprehensive Development Plan Establishment Research Project," taking the first step toward fostering Yeosu Bay as a core content of the South Coast tourism belt.
The city will carry out the "Yeosu Bay Renaissance Mid- to Long-term Comprehensive Development Plan Establishment Project," which contains Yeosu's new future vision and development strategy with citizen happiness as the top priority, until May next year.
The plan envisions developing five bays where sea and land coexist into centers of future energy, ecological conservation, wellness, eco-friendly tourism, and marine leisure sports to realize the Yeosu Bay Renaissance.
The project also includes preparing detailed specific implementation plans focusing on the regeneration and sustainable development of Yeosu Bay, systematic management measures for future generations, and improvement of citizens' living conditions.
At the briefing session, about 20 people, including Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong of Yeosu, expert advisory committee members, and the research project contractors, attended to share the direction of the comprehensive plan establishment and engaged in Q&A and advisory committee opinion presentations.
Yeosu City plans to operate a working-level promotion team composed of expert advisory committees from each field and team leaders from city hall business departments to ensure the substance of the project and produce highly executable results through continuous communication and exchange of opinions.
Additionally, the city plans to create a new future vision for Yeosu together with local residents through recruiting citizen participation groups and policy contests.
Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong of Yeosu said, "Through this project, we plan to preserve and develop Yeosu Bay, a natural treasure, according to each of its characteristics and create a premium marine complex linked to the tourism industry." He added, "Together with Eleven Bridge and the Yeosu-Namhae Undersea Tunnel, we will nurture it as a core content of the South Coast tourism belt to lead Yeosu's re-leap and revival."
