The Gyeonggi Youth Gap Year program is a flagship youth policy of Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon in the 8th local government administration, aimed at providing 'more equal opportunities' to young people. This project offers 600 youths the chance to explore what they want to do and design their future through attempts and challenges, and this is the second time it is being held.
On the 3rd, Governor Kim Dong-yeon attended the orientation for the 2nd cohort of the '2023 Gyeonggi Youth Gap Year Program' held at the Yeonam Hall auditorium of Ajou University in Suwon, saying, "I hope you reduce the fear and worries you feel when you first challenge yourself and continuously take on challenges in the wide world. If there are difficulties and fears, the responsibility lies with the social structure and the older generation. When challenges accumulate, you will be able to feel the beauty and fulfillment that they bring."
He continued, "Wanting to become a public official or the president is a noun, but the verb is the 'To Do' ? something you want to do. I want to encourage you to pursue your To Do. When these things are repeated and accumulated, you can move on to the 'To Be' stage, where you consider 'what kind of person I want to be' as a human being," he advised.
The Gyeonggi Youth Gap Year program, which started for the first time this year, begins with an orientation and then proceeds with a 3-week 'PART 1 Exploration and Discovery' course to concretize projects and establish execution plans, followed by a 12-week 'PART 2 Challenge and Change' course to carry out the projects.
The 1st cohort of the Gap Year completed the orientation and the 3-week 'PART 1 Exploration and Discovery' course in July and is currently conducting projects for career exploration.
Among the projects of the 1st cohort youths, the most common fields are design, education, film and drama, information technology (IT) and software (SW), and they are also challenging themselves in various other fields such as food, music, environment, and ecology.
On this day, the 300 youths participating as the 'Gap Year 2nd cohort' shared with Governor Kim Dong-yeon their motivations for joining the program, project plans, and expectations.
