Changwon Special City, "No Use of Plastic Artificial Flowers in Park Cemeteries"
For the Establishment of Eco-Friendly Mourning Culture
Agreement to Eradicate the Use of Plastic Funeral Flowers
On the 3rd, Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam held a signing ceremony for the 'Agreement to Eradicate the Use of Plastic Artificial Flowers in Park Cemeteries' at the city hall reception room with Changwon Park Cemetery, Changwon Cheonjabong Park Cemetery, BNK Gyeongnam Bank, NH Nonghyup Bank, Changwon Enertec, and the Korea Floriculture Self-Governing Council.
Plastic artificial flowers are mostly made of mixed materials, making them non-recyclable, and most are incinerated or landfilled. Over 2,000 tons are imported annually, causing environmental pollution and an increase in microplastics.
This agreement was prepared to promise mutual cooperation among park cemetery operators and related local businesses to eradicate the use of plastic artificial flowers at the two Changwon park cemeteries and to define the roles of each institution.

Changwon Enertec will support the disposal of existing imported artificial flowers in the park cemeteries, and the Korea Floriculture Self-Governing Council will promote cooperation and support for fresh flower supply and fresh flower offering campaigns.
For public awareness, the city will post promotional banners at park cemeteries starting this month and utilize city promotional media such as Changwon Special City's electronic display boards and website. They will also conduct a fresh flower offering campaign during the Chuseok holiday, distributing fresh flowers for free.
