Police Conduct Kakao Search and Seizure Over 'Lee Nak-yeon Camp Comment Manipulation Allegations'
The police have launched a forced investigation into allegations that comment manipulation was carried out to favor former leader Lee Nak-yeon during the 2021 Democratic Party presidential primary.
On the 2nd, the Cyber Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that it conducted a search and seizure at Kakao (Daum) Pangyo headquarters in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province on the 25th of last month.
In May, Kim Min-seok, an independent member of the Gangseo District Council, filed a complaint with the prosecution accusing former leader Lee and his campaign associates of systematically posting comments unfavorable to Lee Jae-myung from September 2020 to October 2021, alleging obstruction of business by computer. Councilor Kim claimed, "Internal documents contain information that about 90 IDs were used to post content unfavorable to Lee Jae-myung, as well as rebuttal and supportive comments related to Lee Nak-yeon’s allegations, which were promoted to best comments."
