The Korea Talent Award is a program that discovers, awards, and supports talents from various fields who possess three key elements: ‘outstanding achievements through wisdom and passion,’ ‘creating new value through creative thinking,’ and ‘contributing to consideration and social development.’ It began in 2001 as the ‘Excellent Talent Award Leading the 21st Century’ and was reorganized in 2008 as the ‘Korea Talent Award,’ selecting a total of 2,296 talents to date.
Past recipients include (2002) designer Seong Jeong-gi, (2005) folk painter Park Jeong, (2008) figure skater Kim Yuna, (2010) ‘Seoul Bus’ app developer Yoo Joo-wan, (2013) social entrepreneur Park Chan-jae, (2015) aerospace expert Kim Kang-san, (2016) social network service (SNS) writer Lee Chang-min, (2020) science performance planner Jang Hye-ri, (2021) archer Kim Je-deok, and (2022) convergence talent Cha Yi-kyung.
Applicants must complete and submit their application documents by September 3. The selection process includes regional screening (document review in September) and central screening (document review, interview, and presentation from October to November), followed by final selection.
One hundred outstanding young talents (50 high school students and 50 university students and young adults) will be selected. One person will receive the Prime Minister’s Award (with a prize of 3 million KRW), and 99 will receive the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Award (with a prize of 2 million KRW). Awardees will also be given various opportunities such as participation in the ‘Global Talent Forum.’
