Hampyeong-gun Successfully Completes Signature Campaign Urging Establishment of Nuclear Safety Grant Tax
Hampyeong-gun 9,112 People and a Total of 1.34 Million Residents from Alliance Municipalities Participate
Hampyeong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 1st that the "1 Million Residents' Signature Campaign to Urge the Establishment of a Nuclear Safety Grant Tax," promoted by the alliance of areas near nuclear power plants nationwide, has been completed with the participation of 1.34 million residents from the alliance's member local governments.
The "1 Million Residents' Signature Campaign to Urge the Establishment of a Nuclear Safety Grant Tax" was conducted from May 10 to July 31 targeting residents of 23 local governments near nuclear power plants.
Hampyeong-gun showed a high participation rate of 113%, with 9,112 residents participating against the target of 8,000.
Each local government belonging to the nationwide alliance of areas near nuclear power plants, including Hampyeong-gun, operated signature booths and carried out promotional activities at major events such as local festivals and performances.
In addition, a total of 117 people including heads of local governments belonging to the alliance, members of the National Assembly, and city/county/district councilors participated in a large-scale SNS challenge.
The nationwide alliance of areas near nuclear power plants plans to deliver the signed petitions containing residents' wishes to the National Assembly, the Prime Minister's Office, the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety in September, urging the improvement of unreasonable nuclear power support policies and the establishment of a nuclear safety grant tax.
Following this, they will launch an administrative council within the year to hold regular meetings, and the 23 local governments will continue communication and cooperation through joint responses and solidarity activities.
