'Four-Season Indoor Garden'... Namdong-gu, Incheon, Creates 'Smart Garden' in Namdong Industrial Complex

Namdong-gu, Incheon, has launched the creation of 'Smart Gardens' to improve the working environment and provide rest spaces for workers in the Namdong National Industrial Complex. The district announced on the 1st that it recently established Smart Gardens, indoor gardens utilizing unused indoor spaces, at four resident companies within the Namdong Industrial Complex.

This project is supported with a total of 120 million KRW by the Korea Forest Service, Incheon City, and Namdong-gu, allowing companies to create these gardens in their unused spaces without bearing any costs. This time, four companies?Yoon Biotech, Daedong Hirex, Daechang Steel, and Jeongsang NCT?were selected and the project was completed.

The Smart Garden is an indoor garden managed by a plant automation system equipped with IoT (Internet of Things) technology, featuring plants with excellent indoor air purification abilities such as Table Palm and Coral Tree.

According to research by the Korea Forest Service and the Korean Garden Design Association, Smart Gardens have been confirmed to be effective in relieving brain fatigue, stabilizing the autonomic nervous system, reducing workers' fatigue and depression, and recovering from environmental stress. Additionally, they help reduce fine dust through indoor air purification.

Since 2020, the district has been supporting the installation of Smart Gardens in 20 companies within the Namdong National Industrial Complex. Park Jong-hyo, Mayor of Namdong-gu, stated, "I hope that workers in the Namdong Industrial Complex can enjoy healing through evergreen indoor gardens throughout the four seasons in their daily lives," and added, "We will continue to promote the Smart Garden creation project for workers' health and emotional healing."
