The Ministry of the Interior and Safety held a tree-planting ceremony at the Central Building of Sejong Government Complex to mark Minister Lee Sang-min's return. The minister pledged to work together with the staff to create a safe and happy Republic of Korea by planting trees.

View original imageOn the 1st, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced that a tree-planting event was held in the southern space of the Central Building of Sejong Government Complex, attended by Minister Lee, Vice Minister Han Chang-seop, Director Kim Seong-ho of the Disaster and Safety Management Headquarters, and two ministry employees as representatives.
The ministry moved into the Central Building of Sejong Government Complex in February this year. However, the move-in ceremony could not be held because Minister Lee's duties were suspended due to impeachment proceedings over responsibility for the Itaewon tragedy. After the Constitutional Court dismissed the impeachment motion against the minister on the 25th of last month and he returned to work, the tree-planting ceremony was held.
Regarding holding a tree-planting ceremony instead of a move-in event, the ministry explained that Minister Lee requested to omit the plaque unveiling and ribbon-cutting ceremonies considering the heatwave and heavy rain conditions, so only tree planting was conducted.

At the event, Minister Lee urged, “Just as trees grow, let us unite with one heart and one mind to open a local era where anywhere in Korea is a good place to live from our new home in the Central Building.” He then visited the Central Disaster and Safety Situation Room and pledged, “Let us take pride in protecting the lives and safety of the people and work even harder.”
