"Getting Closer When Naked Together"... Escape the Heat at 'K Jjimjilbang' Praised by US Media
The Washington Post Introduces One Way to Escape the Heat
As the United States suffers from consecutive days of heatwaves, The Washington Post (WP) has attracted attention by introducing the Korean-style jjimjilbang as one way to escape the heat.
On the 31st (local time), WP published a column titled "6 Ways to Beat the Heat, Including Korean-Style Jjimjilbang and Bacon Ice Cream Soaked in Sugar," explaining various methods to escape the heat.
WP stated, "This summer, record-breaking heatwaves are hitting the world hard, causing extreme discomfort," and added, "We asked our contributors to describe pleasant ways to cool down, even if they might not be the most effective methods."
The methods introduced by the contributors included ▲ resting in the shade at the front door ▲ teaching children to swim ▲ stopping complaints about the heat ▲ putting your head in the freezer compartment ▲ making ice cream, among others.
In particular, visiting a Korean-style jjimjilbang was introduced as one way to cool off. One contributor said, "For a fee of $40 (about 50,000 won), you can spend the night at a Korean-style jjimjilbang," adding, "Visitors can enjoy various dry saunas such as infrared rooms, salt rooms, and hanjeungmak, as well as hot and cold baths."
They continued, "For an additional fee, you can receive full-body and facial massages along with various beauty treatments," and said, "alternating between cold and hot baths refreshes you and helps you sleep much better."
They also mentioned that jjimjilbangs provide opportunities to make new friends.

They continued, "Taking off your clothes creates an atmosphere where you can become closer," and added, "Experiencing a Korean bathhouse is a chance to escape to another country."
