Goheung-gun Achieves 'Grand Prize' at National Manifesto Competition

Integration of Drones and AI Reduces Labor in Aquaculture Amid Aging Population

Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) announced that it won the ‘Grand Prize’ for the first time in Goheung-gun at the ‘2023 National Basic Local Government Heads Manifesto Best Practice Competition’ hosted by the Korea Manifesto Practice Headquarters on July 27.

The manifesto competition, held over two days from the 26th to the 27th at Suncheon National University, is a contest to discover excellent cases among the pledges and policies of the 8th local government heads nationwide. A total of 364 cases were submitted from 155 basic local governments nationwide, 172 cases were selected through the first document screening, and seven excellent cases in each category were finally selected through the presentation screening on the 27th.

Participating in the ‘Digital Innovation Leadership’ category with the theme of ‘Establishment of Aquaculture Farm Management System Using AI and Drones,’ Goheung-gun was highly evaluated as an excellent case of responding to local extinction based on advanced technology such as labor reduction and productivity improvement in aging aquaculture households by combining the region’s greatest strengths, ‘drones’ and ‘AI,’ including the nation’s largest drone flight zone and drone flight and demonstration.

A county official said, “Goheung-gun is a drone special zone leading the drone industry in Korea, and we promoted the project to actively respond to the aging and population decline of our county through productivity improvement and labor reduction in aquaculture using drones and AI.” He added, “It is a meaningful result to win the grand prize as a case that residents can directly feel.”

Meanwhile, Goheung-gun is solidifying its position as Korea’s drone hub city with events such as ▲ the largest drone show in the nation held every Saturday at Nokdong Port ▲ the first phase demonstration project of the K-UAM Grand Challenge involving 46 companies including Korean Air, Hyundai Motor Company, and SKT ▲ the upcoming 1st Goheung Drone & UAM Expo.
