Japan Sets Minimum Wage at 1002 Yen... Largest Increase Ever at 4.3%
Japan's minimum wage has been set at an average nationwide hourly rate of 1002 yen (approximately 9,187 won).
According to Kyodo News on the 28th, the Subcommittee of the Central Minimum Wage Council under the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare decided to raise Japan's minimum wage by 41 yen (4.3%) from the previous 961 yen.
This is the first time the nationwide average minimum wage has exceeded 1000 yen. It is also the highest minimum wage increase rate since the current minimum wage determination method was introduced in 2002.

The newly decided minimum wage will be applied starting this October. However, since Japan's minimum wage varies by region, the local councils in each prefecture will set the minimum wage again according to regional circumstances.
