Office for Government Policy Coordination Requests Investigation of 36 People in 'Osong Disaster'... Considering Recommendation to Dismiss Head of 행복청
Request Review for Personnel Actions of Chungbuk Deputy Governor and Cheongju Deputy Mayor
The Office for Government Policy Coordination has requested an investigation into 36 public officials and on-site personnel regarding the Osong underpass disaster caused by heavy rain, which resulted in 14 casualties. It is also reported that the Office is considering recommending the dismissal of Lee Sang-rae, the head of the Saemangeum Development Agency.
On the 28th, the Office announced that it requested investigations for a total of 36 people, including 6 officials from Cheongju City, 5 from the Chungbuk Fire Headquarters, 4 from Chungcheongbuk-do Province, 1 from the Saemangeum Development Agency, as well as the chief supervisor of the Mihocheon Bridge construction site and the representative of the construction company. Among them, 12 are senior officials at the level of director, bureau chief, or section chief.
Separately from the investigation requests, 63 public officials from five institutions will be notified to their respective organizations to take disciplinary actions or other measures.
In addition, the Office plans to take personnel actions such as suspension from duty against managers who have direct command and supervisory responsibilities. Visit Kyu, the head of the Office for Government Policy Coordination, stated, "Even if someone is not subject to an investigation request, if any related organization deems it necessary to hold individuals accountable regardless of their rank, personnel actions will be requested, including for political appointees."
In particular, the Office is reportedly strongly considering recommending the dismissal of Lee Sang-rae, the appointed head of the Saemangeum Development Agency, for failing to fulfill on-site management responsibilities as the head of the agency that commissioned the 'Osong?Cheongju (Section 2) Road Expansion Project.'
