Tobacco Sales in the First Half of the Year Decrease by 0.6% Compared to Last Year
Cigarette sales in the first half of the year showed a slight decrease compared to last year.
According to the '2023 First Half Cigarette Market Trends' announced by the Ministry of Economy and Finance on the 28th, cigarette sales in the first half amounted to 1.77 billion packs, a 0.6% decrease compared to 1.78 billion packs in the first half of last year.

The sales share of heated tobacco products continues to increase. In the first half of this year, the market share of heated tobacco products accounted for 16.5% of total cigarette sales, up 1.7 percentage points from 14.8% last year. It has steadily risen from 2.2% in 2017, increasing about eightfold over six years. Excise taxes imposed on cigarette sales recorded 5.7 trillion won, down 0.4% due to the decrease in shipment volume.
