'Suspected Investigation Cover-up' Yang Bu-nam's Arrest Warrant Rejected Again by Prosecutors Due to "Lack of Evidence"
The police applied for an arrest warrant for Yang Bu-nam, the Legal Committee Chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, on charges of receiving a large sum of legal fees in exchange for covering up an investigation, but the prosecution rejected it again.
The Human Rights Protection Division of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Seong Sang-wook) announced on the 27th that it dismissed the police's reapplication for an arrest warrant for Chairman Yang due to insufficient evidence of criminal charges and grounds for detention.
The police are investigating allegations that Chairman Yang received a large amount of legal fees in November 2020 from the operators of an online gambling site in Daegu in exchange for covering up the investigation. The police applied for an arrest warrant for Chairman Yang on May 30, but the prosecution rejected it, stating that supplementary investigation was necessary.
