Opposition Party Submits Request for State Audit on 'Yangpyeong Expressway Favoritism Allegations'
"Resolving Public Doubts Through Truth Investigation"
On the 27th, the Democratic Party of Korea submitted a request for a parliamentary investigation to uncover the truth behind allegations of preferential treatment involving President Yoon Seok-yeol's family-in-law related to the route change of the Seoul-Yangpyeong Expressway.
At the party meeting that day, the Democratic Party adopted the submission of the parliamentary investigation request as the party's official stance. Floor spokesperson Lee So-young told reporters after the meeting, "The Democratic Party has decided to submit a parliamentary investigation request regarding the allegations of preferential treatment involving the president's family-in-law related to the Seoul-Yangpyeong Expressway route change, and it was adopted as the party's official stance today." She added, "Although the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee held a full meeting past midnight yesterday, it only heightened suspicions. We will clarify the suspicions and uncover the truth through the parliamentary investigation to resolve the public's doubts."
In the request, the Democratic Party pointed out, "Despite numerous lands owned by the president's family-in-law located near the changed terminus of the Seoul-Yangpyeong Expressway raising allegations of preferential treatment, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Won Hee-ryong unilaterally canceled the project, causing social confusion."
The scope of the investigation includes ▲ uncovering the truth behind the change of the Seoul-Yangpyeong Expressway terminus to Gangsaeng-myeon, Yangpyeong-gun, where the president's family-in-law owns land ▲ investigating all procedural suspicions raised during the process of changing the new route after passing the preliminary feasibility study for the Seoul-Yangpyeong Expressway ▲ conducting a full investigation into the acquisition, purpose, and land use changes of lands within Yangpyeong-gun by individuals related to the preferential treatment allegations, including the president's family-in-law ▲ probing allegations of illegal and improper involvement by power groups such as the Presidential Office, Presidential Transition Committee, Prime Minister's Office, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Ministry of Economy and Finance, Korea Expressway Corporation, Yangpyeong-gun, and contractors regarding the project confirmation and route change. They also requested the formation of a special committee of 18 members proportionate to the seats of negotiation and non-negotiation parties.
