The Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency under the Ministry of Employment and Labor publicly released six outstanding works selected from the '2023 Industrial Safety Webtoon Contest' online on the 27th.
The award ceremony for the outstanding works will be held on the morning of the 28th at the Seoul Animation Center's Cartoon House, hosted by the Seoul Business Agency.
Held for the second time following last year, this contest was conducted to encourage public interest in industrial accident prevention and to spread a culture of safety through content enjoyed by people of all ages and genders.
The contest was jointly hosted by the Agency, the comprehensive content company CJ ENM, and the Seoul Business Agency (SBA), the same as last year.
This year, a total of 63 works were submitted, and based on criteria such as public favorability, usability and popularity, thematic suitability, work completeness, and creativity, six final works were selected through general public voting and expert evaluation.
The grand prize was awarded to Seong Jeong-seok for his submission 'Jaehaegwi'. The excellence awards went to Park Hyun-wook's 'Y's Safety Memoir' and Lee Sae-yeol's 'Jeoseung Dokkaebi', and the merit awards were given to Kim Bo-geum's 'Jikimi', Choi Jun-young and one other's 'The Man Who Builds Brick Houses', and Yoo Yeon-jeong's 'The Other Side of Sweetness'.
The award-winning works can be viewed on the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency's website, the official webtoon contest website, SNS channels, and will also be published on popular webtoon platforms.
Among the award-winning works, outstanding pieces will be given opportunities for secondary commercialization such as video adaptation in collaboration with CJ ENM, and if commercialization is decided, support will be provided through the Seoul Business Agency's webtoon industry network.
The grand prize work will be produced as an animation and distributed via the Agency's YouTube channel and other SNS platforms.
