Landslide Warning Lowered to 'Caution' in 16 Cities and Provinces Nationwide
The landslide warning level in 16 cities and provinces nationwide has been lowered from ‘Alert’ to ‘Caution’.
The Korea Forest Service announced that, as the monsoon season has ended this year, starting from 9 a.m. on the 27th, the landslide warning level in 16 cities and provinces nationwide, except for Jeju (currently at the Interest stage), will be downgraded to ‘Caution’.
The warning levels are divided into four stages: ‘Interest,’ ‘Caution,’ ‘Alert,’ and ‘Severe’.
However, considering the Korea Meteorological Administration’s forecast of heavy showers in most regions nationwide at the tail end of the monsoon season and the unstable ground conditions due to preceding rainfall, the Korea Forest Service plans to maintain vigilance against landslides.
Lee Jong-su, Disaster Control Officer at the Korea Forest Service, emphasized, “Although the landslide warning level has been lowered, the ground is still very weak due to the accumulated rainfall during the monsoon season. Moreover, since strong showers are forecasted in various areas, the possibility of landslides remains.”
