Running Along the Han River... 'Gangdong Seonsa Marathon' Held
Gangdong-gu to Host Prehistoric Marathon at Amsa-dong Historic Site in Seoul on September 17 at 9:30 AM
Applications Open on the Official Website Until 2,500 Participants Are Registered
At the threshold of autumn, Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Soo-hee) will hold the ‘Prehistoric Marathon Festival’ along the Han River on September 17 at the Amsa-dong Historic Site in Seoul.
Sponsored by Gangdong-gu and organized by the Gangdong-gu Athletics Federation, the ‘Prehistoric Marathon Festival’ is an event to pray for the successful hosting of the 28th Gangdong Prehistoric Culture Festival, scheduled for October 13-15, and to promote the festival both domestically and internationally. Last year’s Prehistoric Marathon attracted great anticipation from participants, with registration closing early after reaching the maximum of 2,500 participants.
This year’s ‘2023 Prehistoric Marathon’ will also accept approximately 2,500 applications on a first-come, first-served basis from local residents and marathon club members nationwide. Registration began in June on the official event website.
The participation fee is 25,000 KRW per person, and all participants will receive functional pants, a finisher’s medal, a bib number, a timing chip (rental), and a certificate of completion.
The race starts at 9:30 AM on September 17 from the plaza at the Amsa-dong Historic Site, with various course options ranging from a half marathon course that loops through Amsa Rabbit Tunnel and Hangang Citizen’s Park back to the start, to shorter 10km and 5km courses. Participants can enjoy a fantastic race extending to Gwangnaru Hangang Park and Jamsil Hangang Park.
Prizes including certificates and awards will be given to the top 1st to 5th place finishers in both male and female categories for each course. Additionally, special awards will be presented to participants who run the marathon dressed in costumes fitting the theme of the Prehistoric Culture Festival.
Mayor Lee Soo-hee of Gangdong-gu said, “As the autumn cools down, I hope everyone will join the Prehistoric Marathon to run along the Han River and look forward to the newly developed Amsa History Park.” She added, “Please be sure to visit the 28th Gangdong Prehistoric Culture Festival with your family soon and have a wonderful time.”
