National Mokpo University Engineering Education Innovation Center, Semiconductor Digital Circuit Design Education
Proceeding with the goal of nurturing talent equipped with practical field skills
The Center for Engineering Education Innovation at Mokpo National University (President Song Ha-cheol), in co-hosting with the Department of Semiconductor Engineering (newly established in 2024), announced on the 26th that it held the "Semiconductor Digital Circuit Design Education" over two days from the 24th to the 25th in Room 501 of Building 4 at the College of Engineering, Mokpo National University.
This education, conducted as part of the 2023 Creative Convergence Engineering Talent Development Support Project sponsored by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology, aimed to cultivate talent with practical field capabilities in the semiconductor materials industry sector, a national priority policy development area.

A total of 20 students participated in this education, including 7 students from consortium universities participating in Chonnam National University’s materials consortium and 13 students from Mokpo National University. Professor Seo Jong-hyun from the Green Semiconductor Design Department at Korea Polytechnic University (Seongnam) was invited to teach the basics of semiconductor digital circuit design, and the program was operated in a way that linked digital circuit simulation and SPI practice.
Kim Pyeong-an, a sophomore student in the Department of Electrical and Control Engineering at Mokpo National University who participated in the education, said, “Through this semiconductor digital circuit design education, I gained a good understanding of the semiconductor field, which I had been interested in. Although it was challenging, participating in the actual design practice was a meaningful time that helped me better understand semiconductors.”
Oh Myung-ho, Director of the Center for Engineering Education Innovation, said, “This was a meaningful occasion where students from the five participating universities in the materials consortium (Mokpo National University, Gangneung-Wonju National University, Suncheon National University, Dongshin University, and Chonnam National University) gathered to share knowledge and interact with each other. We plan to continuously operate educational programs in future new industry fields responding to the 4th Industrial Revolution to provide diverse educational opportunities for students.”
Meanwhile, the Department of Semiconductor Engineering at Mokpo National University, newly established in 2024, began strengthening education in the semiconductor field, a national priority policy area, starting in 2022 through cooperation with the Seoul National University Semiconductor Joint Research Center. This year, it plans joint educational cooperation with the Chonnam Compound Semiconductor Center, aiming to complete a specialized full-cycle semiconductor education system centered on the local community and student demand, and to become the only Department of Semiconductor Engineering in the Jeonnam region.
