At around 7:12 a.m. on the 25th, a 5-ton fishing vessel sank near the Mulyangjang area in Misu-dong, Tongyeong-si, Gyeongnam, prompting the Coast Guard to respond.
According to the Tongyeong Coast Guard Station, they received a report that a vessel docked at Misu Port was sinking and immediately dispatched a team.
Upon arrival at the scene, it was confirmed that there were no crew members on board the vessel. They proceeded with dewatering the flooded hull and installed oil fences to prevent any oil spills.
By 12:27 p.m., the Coast Guard completed the dewatering operation and salvaged the vessel using a crane.
No marine pollution occurred as no oil or fuel leaked into the sea.
The Coast Guard suspects the accident was caused by a leak in the stern tube, a device connecting the engine room and the propeller underwater, and is currently investigating the exact cause by questioning the reporter and the captain.
