Gyeongnam Election Commission Files Charges Against Donors Exceeding Annual Contribution Limits for Candidates and Campaign Committees
The Gyeongnam Election Commission reported a donor to the prosecution for exceeding the annual donation limit by contributing to candidates and National Assembly members' support committees.
According to the Gyeongnam Election Commission on the 26th, donor A was reported on the 25th for donating a total of 40 million won in eight installments of 5 million won each to local election candidates and National Assembly members' support committees in 2022, exceeding the annual donation limit of 20 million won for donors.
Article 11, Paragraph 1 of the Political Funds Act stipulates that the amount a donor can contribute to a support committee cannot exceed 20 million won annually.
Article 45, Paragraph 2, Subparagraph 2 of the same law states that violating this regulation by making donations is punishable by imprisonment for up to five years or a fine of up to 10 million won.
The Gyeongnam Election Commission explained that individuals wishing to support specific political parties and politicians can donate up to 5 million won each only to support committees registered with the Election Commission, and presidential candidates or presidential primary candidates' support committees can receive up to 10 million won.
