View original imageSeodaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Seongheon) announced on the 26th that it is planning to create "high-rise buildings through complex development of Inwang Market and Yujin Shopping Center" and "securing waterfront sensory spaces within the complex through restoration of Hongjecheon" to develop a landmark in the northwestern area of Seoul.
To this end, the district recently held the "4th Communication Forum with Residents" at the Haha Hoho Village Vitality Center in Hongje-dong, and plans to actively pursue the submission of resident consent forms for the application for designation as a "Seoul Metropolitan Area Station Area Revitalization Project" in September.
This project aims to create a compact city that encompasses necessary facilities and residential areas through high-density mixed-use development around the station area. By applying this to the relatively underdeveloped Hongje District Center, the district aims to achieve balanced regional development.
Previously, due to misunderstandings and conflicts among residents and ambiguity of the project, the development of the "Hongje District Center" has been delayed for a long time. To address this, the district formed a dedicated team and has been conducting large-scale resident meetings and individual interviews since early this year.
As a result, residents reached an agreement to promote redevelopment around Inwang Market and Yujin Shopping Center through the "Seoul Metropolitan Area Station Area Revitalization Project."
Generally, redevelopment projects are delayed due to conflicts arising from stakeholders' interests during the process of gathering resident opinions after planning. However, in the case of the Hongje District Center development, resident consensus was reached first, enabling faster progress.
Meanwhile, at the "4th Communication Forum with Residents," explanations were provided regarding expert reviews on residents' opinions from previous sessions (1st to 3rd), the schedule for promoting the Seoul Metropolitan Area Station Area Revitalization Project, and examples of project progress in other regions.
Notably, for the first time, a bird's-eye view and video of the architectural concept plan for the "Hongje District Center Revitalization Project" were introduced, attracting significant interest. These materials are available for anyone to view on the Seodaemun-gu official website.
Lee Seongheon, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, stated, "Although the required resident consent rate for applying as a candidate site for the station area revitalization project is over 30%, we ask for the understanding and cooperation of landowners within the area to obtain greater support for more active cooperation from the Seoul Metropolitan Government."
