60s Janitor Standing on Cleaning Truck Step Hit by Drunk Driver, Leg Amputated
A 60-year-old sanitation worker who was working while standing on the rear footboard of a cleaning vehicle was hit by a drunk driver and had his leg amputated.
According to the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions' National Democratic General Labor Union and the police on the 25th, at around 10:30 PM the previous day, a vehicle driven by Kim (45), who was driving under the influence, collided with a district office cleaning vehicle on a road in Guro Digital Complex, Guro-gu, Seoul. At the time, the cleaning vehicle was waiting to make a left turn.
As a result of the accident, sanitation worker Yoo (66), who was hanging on the work footboard at the rear loading area of the cleaning vehicle, suffered multiple fractures and had his left leg amputated. Yoo is currently hospitalized in the intensive care unit at the Central Medical Center.

After the accident, Kim fled about 50 meters before crashing into a guardrail and was arrested on the spot. His blood alcohol concentration was measured at 0.202%. According to the Road Traffic Act, a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08% or higher is considered intoxicated. The police are investigating the specific circumstances of the accident with Kim.
